Before we dish your dose of women’s soccer news for the weekend, we gotta do something. For our American readers, you’re probably well aware it’s March Madness. The women’s basketball tournament was disrespected by the NCAA, failing to provide similar amenities and resources seen on the men’s side. Lots of people on social media were rightfully outraged. Well, now it’s time to put some eyeballs on screens and give some love to these incredibly talented basketball players who give their blood, sweat, and tears to get to this level. Heck, we know what that’s like. Catch women’s basketball games on ESPN, ESPNU, ESPN2, and ABC this coming month! We love women’s sports supporting women’s sports. Ok, now to the sport I actually know something about. Let’s dive in.
Arsenal Handles Man United
Friday nights with top-level WoSo action are just extra nice. This past Friday, fourth-place Arsenal hosted third-place Man United at Meadow Park. The Gunners ran away with the three points after a Man U own goal and 51st-minute strike from Carlotte Wuben-Moy. United controlled possession and held the edge in shots, but credit to this Arsenal side for stepping up to get the job done, especially while navigating several injuries to key players.
A New Way of Selecting a World Cup Host Decided
Until this weekend, the FIFA Council had the final vote to decide which country would get to host the Women’s World Cup. Now, like the men’s side, the decision will be made by the much larger FIFA Congress.

NWSL Preseason Game Check-In
Another weekend down means another handful of NWSL preseason games to recap. Washington Spirit and Orlando Pride were supposed to face off this weekend, however, the game was called off due to a positive COVID test (later deemed to be a false-positive). Sky Blue beat UVA 4-0 on Saturday thanks to goals from Onumonu, Freeman, Baxter and Zerboni. Meanwhile, KC NWSL played… themselves in a 70 minute intra-squad scrimmage.

The club from São Paulo gets it done. On Sunday, Ferrovaria was crowned South America’s best after beating Colombia’s America de Cali in a very entertaining championship game that included all the hard-nose tackles, near-goal attempts, and high tension you could want from a tournament final.
